Brownea Hybrid

The Brownea grandiceps x macrophylla for sale is a medium sized tropical evergreen tree that occurs in Ecuador and Venezuela, it flowers not only from the branches but also from the trunk. 

Young leaves are a deep pinkish colour, sometimes with light variegation, and hang down like large handkerchiefs (like in other related species (browneas, amherstia, maniltoa, etc.). Flowering occurs at the base of the branches and on the trunk itself which is distinct from Brownea angustiflora.

The scarlet flame bean is a cross of two Brownea species and is perhaps more stout, with a heavily lush canopy with longer narrower leaflets and larger flowers, it is truly a sight to see in the warmest months of the year, with bunches of large red flowers.  The flowers can grow as large as 300mm in diameter, it makes a beautiful potted specimen or indoor plant and its size will depend on the size of the pot its in. 

As the tree ages it develops a short trunk and a tall, umbrella like habit with pendulous foliage. They are very attractive to birds, butterflies and other nectar seeking creatures. Plants for sale are well grown seedlings similar to those shown in the photos. Seedling is in a 100mm by 100mm. It is very rarely offered for sale. A true collectors item!

Yes, you can delay the delivery for as long as you need. Just add it in the notes when you order.

Do you offer any guarantees on your plants?

Yes, we offer a 30-day healthy plant guarantee on all our plants.

What if I'm not home for delivery?

If you're not home for delivery, we will leave the plants in a safe place at your address.
